Planning is underway for the new Comprehensive Citywide Parks and Recreation Master Plan for the City of New Orleans!
Recent research found that only 34% of New Orleans’ Black residents live in high parkland areas compared to 55% of white residents. This racial disparity prompted an effort by the city to propose more equitable distribution of city funding for park agencies and coordination. We are currently working with the City to create a new master plan that will focus on expanding equitable access to parks and recreation.
Additionally, the plan will build upon the city’s efforts to create a child-friendly city by expanding access to nature, while addressing climate change and stormwater management. Our team is working closely with the community throughout the process to create a plan for the future of New Orleans’ parks and recreation that will allow every resident and visitor to enjoy all that the city has to offer.
